Hampton Park SC's Launch Pad Anthology Celebrated at Emerging Writers Festival
On June 20th 2019, Launch Pad re-launched ‘Tales from Hampton Park Secondary College’ - the book affectionately known as ‘Refugee Stories’ as part of the Emerging Writers Festival and World Refugee Day.
Hampton Park SC’s 2018 Launch Pad book is filled with true refugee stories from their refugee students and staff. These moving and eye-opening true stories captured the attention of the local community, who insisted that we relaunch the book in public. Launch pad, in collaboration with Hampton Park Secondary College, Bunjil Place, The Emerging Writers Festival, and World Refugee Day threw a shindig that will be remembered for years to come.
The event was emmceed by Abe Nouk and had readings and presentations by student and staff authors.
“This book is an eye-opener, one that paints refugees in a clearer light. The authors range from children to adults and their stories illustrate their humanity and what they are prepared to endure in the pursuit of a safer life which provides opportunity and freedom; a life that gives a fair return for effort. All of the authors shared tales of spirit, a preparedness to work hard for what they receive, and genuine gratitude for the opportunities afforded to them by the Hampton Park Secondary College community and Australia as a whole. A very worthwhile read.” Ayman Youssef - Assistant Principal, Hampton Park SC
